Our test environment gives our partners a sandbox in which to place test orders, open trouble tickets, and so forth. We update the testbed approximately one week after we deploy a new release to Production, though from time to time we may pre-deploy a release to give partners a change to test significant new features early.
If and when we update Production between releases we also update our testbed, maintaining close correlation between our production and test environments. These updates require a short testbed outage, typically between one and three hours duration, and occur right after the relevant production outage.
